I've been obsessed with soccer as far back as I can remember. I always enjoyed my rotation into the goal during the early years. As soon as I was able to specialize, I went for it. On any day between practices and camps, I can usually be found at my high school field, either working with teammates or just running my own drills for hours. My dedication paid off when I started high school and as a freshman I was selected as the starting goal keeper for Varsity. I strive to always evaluate, learn and keep improving with my teammates.
I am a firm believer that it takes the whole team to earn victory on and off the field. My fellow players on both my high school and travel soccer team are more than just the field players, they are my friends, confidants, and vital to our collective success in everything we do. When I miss a shot, I thrive from their encouragement to pick myself back up and give them my absolute best for the next shots. They also deserve to get the same from me. While I lead our defense and response to the advances of the opposing team, I know them so well that we move often on a common instinct. Even though I always push myself to always be the first to finish a sprint or last to cry out, I know that I am nothing without my team.
I'm passionate about sports and the benefits of an active lifestyle. In my effort to share all the aspects I love in sports, I volunteer as the assistant coach for a local 8-year old soccer team at the Soccer Association of Columbia (SAC) in Columbia, MD. I also work with Pells Keeper School as an assistant instructor during the camps focused for younger goal keepers to help them learn the many aspects of being a successful goal keeper. I owe so much of my success at this point in my life to many adults who gave their time and focus to teach and inspire me that I want to make sure I pay it forward for the next group of athletes.
I don't do idle well. I love many sports and spend most evenings at the gym playing pick-up basketball games. My sophomore year I was approached by the high school varsity lacrosse coach to try out for the lacrosse team. I had never picked up a stick before, but worked with friends for weeks before the tryouts. Their help, combined with my intense focus and desire to learn earned me a spot on the Varsity team. This year, driven by my love of basketball and all the pick-up games, I tried out and earned a spot on my high school Varsity basketball team. While soccer is my passion, I find expanding my focus into many other sports keeps me in prime physical shape and gives me insights from these other experiences I apply to my soccer games as well.
